Case Study

Brendan Carr

Brendan Carr joined the University through Clearing, but having already heard great things about Sunderland from his friends, he had no doubt he was picking a university that would help him fulfil his potential. Three years later his decision was rewarded – the BA (Hons) Graphic Design & Communications student graduated with a First-Class degree and has since gone on to secure employment as a Graphic Designer at Pebble.

One of the biggest reasons I picked Sunderland was word of mouth from people I knew currently studying at the university – I’d heard great things about the facilities and staff. I also attended an Open Day and discussed with the tutors what the course entailed, what it would allow me to do, and the opportunities that are provided.

My course allowed me to experiment, to push new ideas and learn new innovating techniques. The impressive facilities that were available were just one of the highlights. All of it was made possible by the help and support of the tutors and technicians who were always there to help.

During university I was working one day a week as a Junior Graphic Designer working for a company named Pebble, but since graduating I received a promotion to Graphic Designer. As for my career in the future, I’d like to progress up the chain, moving onto potentially studio and freelance work.

I would definitely recommend Sunderland to anyone considering going to University; Sunderland offered me opportunities that I wouldn't have been able to get elsewhere. The work experience opportunities that I gained were invaluable to my education and my career. The University is in an excellent location and great support is available from lecturers if you ever need it.”
