PGCE Education IDL (Independent distance learning)

Nikesh Chopra was teaching English as an Additional Language to students and sought to progress his teaching career further. He wanted to make a change to teach Primary Education and found that the PGCE Education offered via independent distance learning allowed him to do just that.

I chose to study at the University of Sunderland based on the excellent reputation of the distance learning PGCE course. I have found it to be highly accessible and the practical elements have helped me really hone my craft.

I studied this course during the Covid-19 pandemic, and that presented some challenges. Overall, I would describe the experience as a rollercoaster of emotions, frustrations, achievements and surprises. After graduating I have progressed my career significantly by securing a fantastic position in a primary school. Long term I would love to travel and see more of the world.

I would absolutely recommend the University of Sunderland to prospective students. The most important piece of advice I would give to them is to do your research, and after you have, go for it!"
