Diane Stephenson

BSc (Hons) Public Health student Diane Stephenson would encourage anyone with doubts about their ability to be educated to never underestimate themselves; she credits the University of Sunderland as the best decision for her future career.

I decided to study at the University of Sunderland as I had heard excellent reviews. I attended the open day and was instantly attracted to the BSc (Hons) Public Health course which I then knew was the route I wanted to take. The course inspired me as it looked at many aspects of health and the wider determinants of health that are linked to the individual and communities.

The Public Health programme gives you fantastic opportunities to network with specialist services. Whilst studying at Sunderland I found that my confidence grew and I decided that I really wanted to work with individuals with substance problems.

The course opens many doors and allowed me to further my education by progressing onto MSc Public Health which I'm currently studying while still learning many interesting factors surrounding health and health promotion.

I would definitely recommend the University of Sunderland to anyone who is considering further education. Go to the open days and speak to the different lecturers, professionals and even some of the other students to get a feel for university life – everyone is friendly and always on hand to give advice.

And never underestimate your ability to be educated – the University of Sunderland was the best decision I've made for my future career.
