MA Media and Cultural Studies

Jaymie Tan Chia Wen completed a BA (Hons) Mass Communications course after which she decided to take on an MA in Media and Cultural Studies where she learned a lot about developing her ideas and also how to execute it during an independent study. Jaymie is working in a digital marketing agency and as a freelance photographer, but she is planning to work for a few more years and venture into the education industry or to open a media agency.

My brother was an alumnus from the University of Sunderland and I felt like I wanted to give it a go because it is linked to my college, IACT, as well.

The best aspects of BA (Hons) Mass Communications is that it has a wide range of choices for each student to choose from - whether Broadcasting, Journalism, PR or Event Management. As for MA in Media and Cultural Studies, my coursemates, as well as the lecturers from the University, played a huge role in making my masters experience complete.

Everyone was each other’s pillar of support; helping and supporting one and another to complete our own research. Being surrounded by a community of supportive and like-minded individuals during this MA was the best feeling ever because it pushes and motivates everyone to work harder and not give up on their own research.

The lecturers were super helpful in terms of giving ideas to further broaden my research as well as going through the necessary procedures to provide help for my independent study and it was an overall amazing experience."
