I decided to study at the University of Sunderland as I always wanted to become a paramedic. Before starting the course I worked as a healthcare professional in an acute mental health ward and volunteered as a coastguard.
The facilities available to us are fantastic, there are state-of-the-art medical facilities such as mock wards and a training ambulance. This allows us to practice our skills before going out on placement. The teaching staff are really friendly and always willing to help.
My favourite part of the course so far has been going out on placement, I have spent time with the North East Ambulance service with the paramedics and on patient transfer. This has given me a real insight into the role.
I would definitely recommend the University of Sunderland to anyone who is considering becoming a paramedic."
