I have always been interested in criminality and the justice system and after being recommended by a friend, I applied to study Criminology.
I have enjoyed every day at the University of Sunderland. The modules were extremely interesting, made more so by excellent staff who could not do enough to help every student. I especially liked how we could pick modules to suit our interests.
I also enjoyed the range of opportunities the course gave me. For example, I went on trips to the court and to a prison. I also became a student representative, helped a lecturer with a research project and undertook a placement with a research agency which allowed me to spend time with vulnerable adults. In addition, I became a volunteer for the Northumbria Community Rehabilitation Company, working with low and medium risk offenders. All of this gave me a valuable insight into working within the criminal justice system.
I am leaving the University of Sunderland with a first class degree, something which would not have been possible without the help of the amazing lecturers within the faculty."
