My experience of studying at the University of Sunderland has been nothing but positive. The best thing about my experience has been the support of lecturers and staff.
While at my placement with Team Kenya I have conducted interviews with another similar organisation; COCO. I have then analysed this data along with other data and created a report for Team Kenya in order to provide them with improvements they could make to their programme. I also provided a questionnaire that Team Kenya may be using when they go on to conduct more research in August.
Team Kenya focus on girls education, economic sustainability and food security, and advocacy for safe communities in order to involve all communities in gender equality and give girls the opportunity to create their own futures.
I thoroughly enjoyed learning about the different cultures and lifestyles that are active in Kenya and comparing it with our country. I also enjoyed learning about gender inequalities due to traditional values as one of my key interests In sociology is gender issues.
I would highly recommend a placement to other students as it provides great skills that can be used when writing your dissertation, it is like a trial dissertation in my opinion. This is also a great experience that you can use in future jobs while providing a more in-depth understanding of the issue that is at the heart of your placement. For example, my placement gave me lots more knowledge regarding gender inequalities in developing countries."
