Case Study

Holly Jane O’Neil

After achieving a BSc in Psychology and Sociology at the University, Holly Jane O’Neil had no doubts that she wanted to continue her education at Sunderland. Holly’s tutor highlighted the MA Practice Development course at the University which seemed perfect for her because of the type of jobs she would be looking at. After graduating she is looking to work with young people dealing with mental health issues and to change the way young people are supported in schools.

I chose to study my MSc at the University of Sunderland as I studied for my BSc here. In making this choice, the University of Sunderland were far superior in support and also course materials. On my course, you can choose to complete all work on areas you are interested in and this allows you to make your choices in relation to the jobs you may be working towards.

The support from tutors and lecturers is amazing. Without this, I would not have achieved what I have within the course. The course covers a variety of aspects from working with service users, creativity and management.
I don’t think I would have had the opportunity or support at other universities to excel. If you need support, ask for it. I had offers from other universities to study there for my masters. I chose to come back, I think that says something in itself. The University of Sunderland feels like one big family and it is the best experience ever.
