BSc (Hons) Tourism Management

A year-long internship in Prague, the Czech Republic's capital city at a Hilton Hotel has been the best decision Ashia Blackmore has made to date. Because of her time at the University of Sunderland studying BSc (Hons) Tourism Management, Ashia now has friends that she will love for life, memories that she won't forget and a degree that will open doors and attract opportunities.

I chose to study here because of the incredible reputation for my field of study. It was close to home and when I completed a summer school course as well as my open day I thought it had such a homely feel to it and I just had a good feeling about this particular location and campus and the opportunities I knew it would offer to me.

The trips are an added bonus when my passion is tourism. The range of subjects and topics was surprising as well as eye-opening, I feel like the world and the industry has completed opened up and there is so much more to the tourism world than I knew about before I started my studies.

The relationships that are created with the lecturers and your mentors are great too. You learn straight away that they will be there for you when you need anything. The support system is strong from the beginning.

I would definitely recommend the University to other students. There are so many great elements about the University that have made mine and so many other students’ experience one to remember for life. Take the jump, move away from home, believe in your ambitions and yourself. It will be the best thing you ever do.

My year internship in Prague was the best decision I have made to date. I got the chance to work at a Hilton Hotel in the centre of the Czech Republic's capital city and it was mind-blowing. I rotated through the different departments but my passion remains with food and beverage.

I would not have had the opportunity to do this without the University and I am so grateful that this has happened to me and that I have been able to increase my knowledge, my confidence and my work ethic in such an incredible place. My connections and the people I have met have enhanced my work and life experience.

Not only the people I met in Prague but also in the city as well. I have been able to find jobs within the city that has helped me to create a stronger CV for my future. I have been at the University for four years now and although I am totally ready for the real world, I would not change my experience.

It’s been difficult, it’s not a walk in the park but you have to work for the good things in life and it’s all been so worth it."
