Sophie Atkin

Whitley Bay, UK

BSc (Hons) Tourism Management

Sophie Atkin successfully completed a one-year placement with Marriott Hotels in her third year as part of her BSc (Hons) Tourism Management course. Sophie received excellent feedback from all managers within the hotel, which enabled her to carry on working for the hotel part-time while studying in her final year.

I choose to study at the University of Sunderland due to the fact that the Tourism Department within the University was ranked within the top three courses overall in the country. I also knew that a placement year would be on offer for my third year which was something I knew I would be interested in.

The best aspects of the course are the field trips that are on offer throughout every year of the course. Both local and national. I got to visit Newcastle, Durham, Prague and New York in my four years at the University. All of the lecturers are fantastic, every seminar is interactive which makes learning easier.

I would highly recommend the University of Sunderland to other students. All staff and lecturers are extremely helpful and go the extra mile to ensure all students are meeting their full potential. The University has plenty to offer with the likes of placements and field trips and all students are helped even after graduation.

After I graduate, I hope to complete a masters degree at the University in Human Resources and then take on a graduate scheme. I have had an achievable experience at my time at the University.

I have taken every opportunity presented to me, which has allowed me to have a successful and pleasurable experience."
