Course modules
Information Technology and Service Management (30 credits)
How do organisations keep their technology running smoothly, while also gaining a competitive edge? This module introduces you to Information Technology Service Management (ITSM), showing you how modern businesses design and deliver secure, efficient, and value driven tech services. You’ll explore how IT services, such as cloud computing, secure networking, data storage, and software support, are planned and managed to meet organisational needs. Using industry frameworks like ITIL, you’ll learn how to navigate the ITSM lifecycle from planning and design to testing and evaluation. You'll also examine how service management strategies can mitigate cybersecurity risks and adapt to real world business challenges, with case studies highlighting both successful and failed implementations.
Business Intelligence and Strategy (30 credits)
In this Business Intelligence (BI) module, you’ll learn how to collect, analyse, and visualise data to drive strategic business decisions. Using tools like Power BI, Tableau, Dash, and SQL, you’ll build interactive dashboards, uncover trends, and solve real world business problems with data. You’ll develop the skills to turn complex datasets into clear, actionable insights, making evidence based recommendations that improve performance and competitiveness. Taught through a mix of lectures, seminars, and practical workshops, this module follows a project-based approach, so there are no exams. Instead, you’ll be assessed through a research report and a technical implementation of a data driven solution.
Cloud Infrastructure and Service Delivery (30 credits)
Ever wondered how apps, services, and entire IT systems run in the cloud? This module introduces you to the core principles behind designing, deploying, and managing cloud based systems. You’ll explore how cloud platforms, public, private, and hybrid, power modern business infrastructure, and how technologies like virtual machines, containers, and orchestration tools work together to deliver scalable, secure, and reliable services. You’ll dive into key areas like automation, service management, monitoring, and cloud security, developing both practical skills and critical thinking through real world examples and case studies. By the end, you’ll be ready to assess, build, and manage cloud environments, setting you up for careers in cloud architecture, operations, or DevOps.
Applied Research and Development (30 credits)
Curious how cutting edge research drives innovation and solves real world problems? This module equips you with essential research skills to explore current literature, identify gaps, and develop robust solutions related to your field of study. You’ll conduct a substantial independent research project, potentially publishable, that combines technical expertise with innovative thinking, creating systems, applications, frameworks, or experiments. You’ll have the chance to propose your own project, collaborate with industry partners, or work alongside academic staff to develop specialist knowledge. Along the way, you’ll build strong communication and critical thinking skills, learn to manage complex projects independently, and engage in scientific discussions and peer review processes.
