Graduate Outcomes survey

The Graduate Outcomes survey is the biggest annual social survey in the UK. Its purpose is to find out what you're doing now if you've recently completed your course.

What is the Graduate Outcomes survey?

All graduates are asked to take part in the Graduate Outcomes survey. This national survey aims to find out what you're doing 15 months after finishing your course. This helps current and future students gain insight into career opportunities and development. Your responses will also help us review and promote our courses.

In June 2025, our survey data joined the Department for Education's Longitudinal Educational Outcomes (LEO) dataset.

This shows how valuable your answers are. The government and the public use this information to understand what life is like for graduates and to help shape graduate employment policy.

Find out more on the Graduate Outcomes website.

How do I take part in the survey?

The Graduate Outcomes team at the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA) delivers the survey. They'll contact you by email or telephone to complete it 15 months after you graduate. If you need to update your contact details, please email us at graduateprospects@sunderland.ac.uk(opens in new tab).

Still unsure on your next steps after leaving university? We're here to support you. Register with us as a graduate through the Employability and Enterprise Hub. We can offer career advice, help you find and apply for jobs, prepare for interviews, and more.

How will my data be shared?

We'll use the data you provide to help us understand what our graduates do after leaving the University. It also helps us improve our services.

Your data will be shared with:

  • University faculties, schools, and academic departments
  • Advisory services such as Student Recruitment and the Alumni Assocation.

It may also be made available to external bodies and third parties. In this case, it would only be shared in a form that doesn't allow individual identification.

All data is secure and processed in line with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). You have rights to access the data the University holds about you. For more information, please see our Privacy Policy. You can also email dataprotection@sunderland.ac.uk(opens in new tab) or write to us at:
