Sunderland's huge return to the Premier League has got football fans excited. Regional fans are looking forward to the biggest day in the North-East football calendar, the Tyne and Wear Derby. This event covers the run up to the derby and what journalists and pundits need to prepare for, both on and off the pitch, including:
- The historical rivalry between the two cities and why this matters
- The outcomes of previous meetings between the two clubs, especially Sunderland's derby wins last season
- The current position of the individual clubs as well as their most recent achievements and challenges
- Knowledge of players and managers from both clubs.
This event will be a hands-on experience. You'll prepare everything you would need if you were working as a journalist or pundit for this game. The main focus of this event is around researching and preparation, and attendees will get the chance to do some writing. There is even the opportunity to take part in a press conference with guests from our Sports Journalism programme.
This event is guided by our programme leader for BA (Hons) Sport Journalism, Neil Farrington. You'll also be supported by current Sports Journalism students.
