Are you ready to take the next step toward an exciting career in technology? Join us for an exclusive event designed for Year 13 students interested in studying Computer Science at University.

You’ll get the chance to:

  • Experience interactive workshops. You can participate in three hands-on sessions. They'll cover topics such as AI, Cybersecurity and Games Development
  • Meet our expert academics. Learn from our leading lecturers about the skills and knowledge you’ll gain from our Computer Science courses
  • Explore our facilities. You can work in our state-of-the-art labs and learning spaces. You’ll have access to the latest technology and resources during your studies
  • Talk to Current Students: Get the inside scoop on what it’s really like to study with us and how to make the most of university life.

Why Attend?

This event will help you make an informed decision about your university choices. You’ll leave with a deeper understanding of our course offerings. You can also explore the potential career paths you could pursue with a degree in Computer Science. It's ideal whether you’re passionate about programming or intrigued by the future of technology.

Workshops

Workshops on offer on the day include:

Cannon Chaos

Learn the basics of Unity development and C# programming in this intense session. You'll code a 3D cannon to launch balls, crash test dummies and even other cannons! Have them fly through the air, smashing through breakable boxes and tallying points.

Hack the Web

Have you ever wondered how secure websites really are? This session will introduce you to different website vulnerabilities. These include directory issues, authentication and injection attacks. You’ll then try to force your way into a series of websites with each one getting more secure as you progress through the challenges.

Dungeons and Devs (An Algorithm Adventure)

Enter the dungeon, think like a programmer, and try not to wake the dragon!

In this session, you'll discover how algorithms turn ideas into working programs. You'll use a deceptive real-world challenge to learn why computers need precise instructions. Then, you'll applying the same problem-solving skills to Dragon in the Dark, a C# console game.

You'll design algorithms, turn them into code and test your solutions as you navigate a dark dungeon in search of the Portal Stone. But beware: hidden traps can wake the dragon - and once awake, its coming for you!

No previous C# experience is required. You'll have the opportunity to build, experiment and see how computational thinking brings games and software to life. It's ideal whether you're an experienced programmer or completely new to coding.

Who Should Attend?

This event is ideal for Year 13 students who are considering studying Computer Science or a related discipline at University. Teachers are welcome to book multiple places for their students. Individuals can also register for the event if they are not coming with a school or college group.
