Join industry professionals for a hands-on day experiencing life inside a real newsroom.
We’re opening our on-campus newsroom to Year 12 and first-year college students who are interested in a future career in journalism or media.
Our newsroom, the mediaHUB, is home to Spark Sunderland(opens in new tab) and our journalism, sports journalism and fashion journalism students. The hub provides students with a real-life taste of working in journalism and radio.
The mediaHUB runs websites and social media channels covering sport, news, entertainments and fashion, provides the content for news bulletins on our award-winning radio station, Spark, and is responsible for writing and editing Spark magazine.
India Adams(opens in new tab), former video journalist with Sky News' Sky Tyne and Wear and Scott McGerty(opens in new tab) from Spark run the mediaHUB and will be there on the day to offer support and guidance.
We’re running two experience days inside the campus newsroom, on 17 June 2026 and 18 June 2026, 10am to 3pm. Each day features a mix of activities linked to journalism and radio:
- Morning: Learn how a newsroom operates, take part in research and writing tasks, and publish your own work.
- Afternoon: Get involved in practical radio workshops and activities.
Spaces for these dates are limited, so we encourage you to reserve your place soon if you’d like to take part.
