You'll take a deeper look at the impact and meaning behind the much-loved film in our recently refurbished cinema.

Workshops

You'll take part in each of the following interactive workshops:

Childhood and Education Studies

This workshop is called "The world will be watching", and will explore ideas of gender and power in Suzanne Collins’s The Hunger Games.

We'll look at how the film challenges traditional gender roles by studying Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark. We'll also consider the construction and disruption of power throughout the narrative.

Criminology

This workshop is called "Understanding crimes and harms of the powerful: A criminological reading of The Hunger Games". We'll explore how The Hunger Games portrays the difference between social classes.

You'll learn how the use of violence and social segregation enforces those dynamics. We'll discuss how people stand up to authority when the justice system works against them.

Fashion

Fashion plays a powerful role in The Hunger Games. Clothing is used to communicate identity, status and power across Panem.

This hands-on workshop is titled "The fashion of the Capitol: Designed to be seen". You'll explore how fashion can be used to express personality and create impact. Inspired by the world of The Hunger Games, you'll create your own garment concepts. You'll try out techniques like digital design and fabric draping.

You'll work in groups to experiment with different fabrics, silhouettes and styles. Then, you'll present your design, explaining which character it best suits and why.

Film and Media

This workshop is called "The arenas are designed to be completely unpredictable". We'll delve into how filmmakers brought The Hunger Games to life. Everything from the cityscapes of the Capitol to the ever-changing environments of the arena will be explored.

Discover how virtual production helps create immersive worlds for film and TV. You'll learn how these technologies shape what audiences see on screen.
