Join us for a day celebrating Toy Story – a film that has captured the imagination of children and adults around the world for generations. This event is open to students interested in creative writing, media, animation, and childhood studies.

You'll take a deeper look at the impact and meaning behind the much-loved film in our recently refurbished cinema before taking part in one of the following interactive workshops:

Playing with Power: Deconstructing Gender in Toy Story

This workshop will deconstruct gender in Pixar’s Toy Story, exploring and destabilising notions of gender stereotyping. You'll be given the opportunity to deconstruct key characters, including Buzz, Woody, Rex and Bo Peep, questioning their portrayal in the well-loved film. You'll examine how gender is represented through the film and give you the skills to scrutinise and recognise gender representations, questioning how your favourite characters are embodied through film.

Animation and Media

Reimagine a real-world toy as a brand-new Toy Story character. Sketching its appearance, building a backstory, and giving it a home in the Pixar universe.

Creative Writing

Reimagine the stories of some of the other characters like Mr and Mrs Potato Head, Rex and Slinky. Put your creative writing skills to the test and write their story.
