"After being part of the station’s Christmas Takeover at the end of 2025, being asked back is a real honour"

Bobbi Bunker
A talented graduate from the University of Sunderland is waking up the nation this month as a presenter on BBC Radio 1.
Throughout October, Bobbi Bunker, who graduated in 2024 with a degree in Media Production, is presenting BBC Radio 1’s Weekend Early Breakfast every Saturday and Sunday, from 6am - 7am.
Bobbi, 24, from Sunderland, said: “After being part of the station’s Christmas Takeover at the end of 2025, being asked back is a real honour.
“One of my favourite memories this summer was dancing my heart out with my friends at Radio 1’s Big Weekend in Sunderland, in my local park, seeing first-hand the impact the station has.
“To now be a small part of that and hopefully a small part of someone’s day when they listen is something I’m really grateful for.”

From work experience at the age of 15, to becoming Head of Programming – Bobbi honed her skills at the University’s community radio station, Spark.
After graduating, the skills she developed at Spark combined with her degree prepared her for her presenting role at BFBS (British Forces Broadcasting Service) in Colchester.
Since returning to the north-east, Bobbie has continued freelancing in radio while working for Sunderland’s Students’ Union (Your Su) as Marketing, Communications and Engagement Lead.
Richard Berry, Associate Professor in Radio and Podcasting at the University of Sunderland and Spark Station Manager, said: “Bobbi is a bright, and engaging presenter, who was a key part of our team at Spark. She’s now doing amazing work across the media industry, alongside her SU duties, and I’m sure listeners will instantly warm to her.”
Spark is the UK Student Radio Station of the Year (2025-26) and is available on FM and mobile app.
