University of Sunderland subjects recognised among UK's best in The Guardian University Guide 2027
The School of Pharmacy at the University of Sunderland has once again been ranked number one by The Guardian for best UK universities for pharmacy and pharmacology.
The University's Pharmacy(opens in new tab) degree has topped the list in The Guardian University Guide 2027 for a third year in a row.
Dr Adrian Moore, Head of the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Sunderland, said: “Being ranked first for Pharmacy and Pharmacology for the third consecutive year is a fantastic achievement and a testament to the sustained commitment and dedication of our staff.
“It reflects the expertise and hard work of our academic team, who continually strive to provide an outstanding educational experience and the very best opportunities for our students. To achieve this level of recognition consistently over three years is a real testament to their dedication and professionalism.
“This success is also a reflection of the strength of the wider University community whose contribution enables us to continue to develop and enhance our programmes and student experience. Equally, we are incredibly grateful to our placement providers and professional partners, whose commitment, expertise and support provide our students with invaluable opportunities to develop their knowledge, apply their learning and grow as future healthcare professionals.
“To achieve this level of recognition once is a tremendous accomplishment; to sustain it for three consecutive years is something of which everyone involved should be extremely proud.”
A further three subjects achieved top 10 national rankings:
- Graphic Design (2nd)
- Journalism (4th)
- Fine Art (7th)

“They also work tirelessly to give our students a first-class extra-curricular experience with guest speakers, visits and networking events, as well as access to the fantastic resources in our MediaHub, Spark Radio, TV and podcasting studios.
“We have graduates working in some of the best-known media organisations from TV to newspapers and magazines, plus in media relations for sports clubs around the world.
