University of Sunderland ranked 11th in the country for teaching excellence

The University of Sunderland has ranked 11^th in the UK for teaching excellence, according to The Daily Mail University Guide.

The guide scores 128 institutions on every subject, student life, and graduate jobs and future earnings.

The University has ranked 5^th for student support.

In the guide’s subject rankings (compared with other universities offering similar courses), the University’s Law course is 8^th place out of 85, Social Work 12^th out of 52 and Journalism 12^th out of 33.

Overall, Sunderland has risen seven places from last year to rank 76th in the country.

Sir David Bell, Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive of the University of Sunderland, said: “Performance tables are only one indication of the work the University does as they cannot capture the richness and diversity of all that goes on here in Sunderland.

“However, our strong, upwards, performance – seen across a range of such tables – vindicates the approach we have taken to improving all that we do, and the benefits that brings to our students.”

This comes as hundreds of prospective new students took their first steps ahead of joining the University of Sunderland community by coming through the Clearing process this week.

Clearing opened on 2 July but the University’s Confirmation and Clearing call centre for students who have received their Level 3 qualification results and are searching for a place at the University, or want their place confirmed, opened at 8am on Thursday 13 August.

Clearing is for those applicants who do not hold any offers, or who might not have achieved the grades they need to get into their first-choice university. It matches them to university places that are yet to be filled.

It also assists in finding places for students who might have performed better than they had originally thought.
