The University of Sunderland has received international recognition after securing five-star ratings in the latest university rankings.

The University was awarded the maximum five stars across a number of categories, including teaching, facilities, employability, environmental impact, global engagement, business and management studies, and diversity, equality and inclusion.

The accolades follow the publication of the QS Stars 2026 ratings.

QS Stars is a university rating system that evaluates institutions against a wide range of indicators across at least eight key categories, including teaching, employability, research and facilities. Institutions are awarded an overall rating from one to five stars, alongside individual star ratings in specific areas.

Speaking about the five stars received for Business and Management Studies, Professor Alex Hope, Pro Vice-Chancellor, Faculty of Business and Technology, said: "This is a genuinely significant result for the University and for the Faculty.

“The QS Stars framework assesses institutions across a broad range of indicators that matter to students and employers and achieving five stars in Business and Management Studies, alongside the other categories, reflects the quality of what we deliver every day.

“Recognition on a global scale like this reinforces our standing as a serious institution for students choosing where to study."
