Dr Jim BoylanDirector of Medical Education
Jim has been the Director of Medical Education at Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust since 2012, having previously been a college tutor and senior postgraduate tutor in the faculty of Medical Development. In his DME role, he is ultimately responsible for leading the strategy and governance for the delivery of undergraduate and postgraduate medical education across TEWV. His particular areas of interest are in the support and development of trainers, clinical skills assessment, the recruitment and development of International Medical Graduates, and developing innovative approaches to undergraduate teaching in Psychiatry.
Rachel GoreConsultant Psychiatrist in Old Age Liaison Psychiatry
Dr Rachel Gore is a Consultant Old Age Psychiatrist based at Wansbeck General Hospital, providing a liaison psychiatry service to patients at the acute and community hospitals within Northumberland. As well as the Director for Undergraduate Clinical Studies at the University, Rachel has two other medical education roles as the CNTW Foundation Tutor and CNTW Higher Trainee Tutor. Her areas of clinical interest are Delirium and Dementia with Lewy Bodies, and she is also interested in service development and medical leadership. Rachel is also a keen runner, regularly completing the Great North Run and aspiring to run a marathon!
Dr Mark ShipleyDirector of Undergraduate Clinical Studies and Consultant Respiratory Physician
Dr Mark Shipley is Director of Undergraduate Clinical Studies and Consultant Respiratory Physician at South Tyneside and Sunderland Foundation Trust. He is clinical lead for COPD and Pleural Disease and has a research interest in medical education and smoking-related behaviour. Mark was a popular Foundation Tutor for five years, introducing pastoral and educational initiatives including appraisal of senior educators as well as refining ARCP processes. He was instrumental in the delivery of 'Better Doctors Better Patients' in improving non-clinical skills in Foundation year one doctors.
Chris TipladyDirector of Undergraduate Clinical Studies
Chris Tiplady has been a consultant haematologist in Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust since July 2001. He has a Masters in Clinical Education and is an Executive Coach and mentor as well as workplace mediator there. He has been a Regional Advisor for Health Education England and a Director of Medical Education and is now one of the Directors of Undergraduate Clinical Studies for the University's Medical School. Dolon BasuConsultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology
Dolon has been a Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, with special interest in Medical Education, at North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust since 2007. She holds a Masters degree in Medical Education awarded by Nottingham University. She is the Director of Medical Education at her Trust having previously been the Foundation Programme Tutor and Deputy Director for Quality. She is now one of the Director of Undergraduate Clinical Sciences at the University.
