Directors of Undergraduate Clinical Studies

The Faculty of Health Science and Wellbeing has a strong tradition of partnership with local health providers across all sectors. The School of Medicine has continued this tradition with established links into primary care, secondary care and psychiatry trusts. Our appointment of five Directors of Undergraduate Clinical Studies (DUCS) is the first wave of clinical teaching appointments in our partner trusts with further partner organisations to deliver teaching as the medical student cohort increases.

Our DUCS appointments are already planning the delivery of excellent clinical placements in five clinical partner organisations:

  • North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust
  • Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust
  • South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust
  • Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust
  • Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust

Our Directors are experienced clinical educators with proven track records in delivering excellent clinical teaching in both the undergraduate and postgraduate arenas. The Directors, supported by a team of clinical specialists in each trust, are well placed to deliver excellent clinical teaching across a range of specialities, offering diverse opportunities to all our medical students. The North East has an excellent reputation for clinical education and our Directors will ensure that tradition continues for our medical students.
