Our Directors are experienced clinical educators with proven track records in delivering excellent clinical teaching in both the undergraduate and postgraduate arenas. The Directors, supported by a team of clinical specialists in each trust, are well placed to deliver excellent clinical teaching across a range of specialities, offering diverse opportunities to all our medical students. The North East has an excellent reputation for clinical education and our Directors will ensure that tradition continues for our medical students.
Dr Chris Tiplady has been a consultant haematologist in Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust since July 2001. He has a Masters in Clinical Education and is an Executive Coach and mentor as well as workplace mediator there. He has been a Regional Advisor for Health Education England and a Director of Medical Education and is now one of the Directors of Undergraduate Clinical Studies for the University's Medical School. Dr Dolon Basu has been a Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, with special interest in Medical Education, at North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust since 2007. She holds a Masters degree in Medical Education awarded by Nottingham University. She is the Director of Medical Education at her Trust having previously been the Foundation Programme Tutor and Deputy Director for Quality. She is now one of the Director of Undergraduate Clinical Sciences at the University.
