Teaching and assessment
We use a blended approach to teach gross anatomy and living anatomy. You'll use a range of tools for virtual dissection, including an Anatomage Table, Virtual Human Dissector software, and Complete Anatomy software. Clinical imaging is a regular element of our teaching and includes the use of portable ultrasound.
You’ll be assessed across three domains, with each domain aligned with a specific assessment type:
- Professional Knowledge is assessed through examinations
- Professional Skills are assessed through OSCE’s and written assignments
- Professional Behaviours is assessed by a review of your student portfolio
Assessments take place on campus in bespoke assessment facilities. During the clinical years of the course, your Objective Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCEs) are delivered in partnership with the acute care trusts.
You’ll experience a varied clinical curriculum and benefit from state-of-the-art teaching facilities. Your skills will develop through regular supervised practice with simulated patients and our large team of clinical tutors. You’ll have many opportunities to consolidate your learning with real patients on placements, starting with early clinical placements in Years 1 and 2. Throughout your studies, you’ll feel well supported by varied experience and bespoke feedback. This will enable you to develop as a confident future healthcare professional and succeed as an excellent doctor.
Healthcare is a team effort. You’ll learn alongside students from pharmacy, nursing, midwifery, physiotherapy, psychology, and social work. Interprofessional learning sessions will help you build teamwork skills, share knowledge, and better understand the roles of others in healthcare.
