The course is aligned and mapped to professional standards set out by the Chartered Institute for Management of Sport and Physical Activity (CIMSPA).
You’ll develop both theoretical understanding and hands-on skills to work with a range of clients and organisations, including professional clubs, charities, and community groups. Modules include real-world scenarios, work placements, and opportunities to engage with industry professionals through guest lectures, site visits, and networking.
Taught by CASES accredited academics and international level coaches, the course emphasises professional development and employability. You’ll build the behaviours, knowledge, and experience needed to make a positive impact in sport, education, and the wider community.
You'll learn theoretical concepts and actively apply them in our state-of-the-art sports science facilities. This approach ensures graduates are not just academically prepared but also professionally skilled.
Taught classes include: tutorials, seminars, workshops, and laboratory and sports hall practicals.
Assessments include: lab reports, portfolios, problem-based learning tasks, timed practicals, case studies, client reports, and infographics.
Full-time students will study four modules per year, two in each semester. Part-time students will study four modules over two years, with two modules per year.

Students will be subject to Safeguarding and Fitness to Practise procedures. Prior to admission, a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check is required for UK students, whereas for overseas students, a Certificate of Good Conduct from the domicile police force is required. This is then superseded by a DBS check, which must be obtained by the student six months after starting the programme. In addition, an Occupational Health check will be undertaken by the University's Occupational Health partner.
Where an applicant’s first language is not English, evidence is required of at least Level 6 attainment in the International English Language Testing Scheme (IELTS). However, students must be aware that to qualify and be accepted for teacher training, an IELTS score of 6.5 is necessary. This may mean that some overseas students will need to undertake additional language development classes and take another IELTS assessment during the progress of the course.

*Undergraduate fees are set according to rules from Government in line with forecast inflation. The fee for your first year of study for 2025/26 will be £9,535. You will pay tuition fees for every year of study. Fees may increase every year based on the Retail Price Index.

All Certificate of Higher Education in Sport students are expected to wear navy blue tops for practical sessions. You can use your Study Plus allowance to buy personalised sportswear with your course name, get plain kit from CitySpace, or buy your own from outside the University.

On completion of the Certificate of Higher Education in Sport, you'll have the opportunity to progress on to Level 5 of either our BSc (Hons) Sport and Exercise Sciences or BSc (Hons) Sports Coaching and Physical Education.
