Facilities
You'll be based in the David Puttnam Media Centre at the Sir Tom Cowie Campus at St Peter's, where you can take advantage of a wide range of fantastic facilities if you're studying English.
The mediaHUB is the vibrant heart of our English and journalism community. Home to BBC Newcastle journalists and buzzing with activity across sport, news, entertainment, and fashion, it offers English students a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a real newsroom environment. This could include contributing to websites and social media channels, or helping produce content for our award-winning radio station, Spark, and its popular print magazine.
With access to industry-standard software like NewsCutter, Burli, and ENPS, and facilities that include dedicated journalism suites, you’ll develop the practical skills and confidence essential for a career in journalism or social media. Whether you're passionate about storytelling, content creation, or media strategy, the mediaHUB will help you turn your academic studies into professional experience from day one.
Our library gives you easy access to everything you need for your English course, on or off campus – all from one simple search. You’ll find key resources like the MLA International Bibliography, Project Gutenberg (with over 50,000 free eBooks), and Voice of the Shuttle for online literature.
There are over 1,400 study spaces, quiet zones, 300+ PCs, and group hubs, plus online reading lists and study skills support. You’ll have full access to two libraries with long opening hours, and 24/7 help through our Live Chat.
We’re more than just books – our friendly Library and Study Skills team offers tailored support throughout your degree, from in-class sessions and digital skills workshops to one-to-one advice on research and academic writing.
