Facilities
Our English students are based in the David Puttnam Media Centre at the Sir Tom Cowie Campus at St Peter's. You can take advantage of a wide range of facilities here.
Are you passionate about storytelling, content creation, or media strategy? The mediaHUB is the vibrant heart of our English and journalism community. Home to BBC Newcastle journalists, it's buzzing with activity. We cover everything from news and entertainment to sport and fashion.
As an English student, you'll gain hands-on experience in a real newsroom environment. This could include contributing to websites and social media channels. Or, producing content for Spark, our award-winning radio station and print magazine.
You'll also have access to industry-standard software like NewsCutter, Burli, and ENPS. Our dedicated journalism suites allow you to gain professional experience from day one. All this will help you develop the skills essential to your career.
Our two libraries allow easy access to all you need for your English degree, whether you're on or off campus. With long opening hours and 24/7 Live Chat support, we're more than just books.
Key resources include:
- The MLA International Bibliography
- Project Gutenberg (with over 50,000 free eBooks)
- Voice of the Shuttle (for online literature).
We have over 1,400 study spaces, quiet zones, and group hubs, as well as over 300 PCs. The library also offers online reading lists and study skills support.
Our friendly team can provide a range of tailored support throughout your degree. This can include:
- In-class sessions
- Digital skills workshops
- Advice on academic reading and research.
