Beyond a degree

A law degree is a highly transferable qualification, and employers know its value. It equips you with skills that go far beyond the courtroom. Our curriculum incorporates real-world experience throughout, and you'll build strengths in critical thinking, problem-solving, communication, and research, which are in high demand across many careers.

You’ll study at the Sir Tom Cowie Campus at St Peter’s, a modern riverside setting just a short walk from Sunderland City Centre and home to everything you need to succeed.

Facilities

As a Law student you'll have exclusive access to specialist facilities including:

Extracurricular opportunities

At every stage of your degree, you'll have the chance to take part in a wide range of extracurricular activities that not only enhance your learning but also give you a fantastic insight into what your future career could look like.

From national and international field trips and high-profile competitions, such as client interviewing and mooting at the Supreme Court, you’ll gain real-world experience that employers will value.

Our invitations to guest speakers allow you to listen to people who are already progressing in their legal careers. Examples of past speakers include graduates from the course who are undertaking the Legal Practice Course or Bar Professional Training Course, and others who have now progressed to their training contract.

You'll also have the opportunity to join the Student Law Society, a vibrant, student-led group that runs social events, hosts guest speakers, and organises networking opportunities throughout the year. It’s a great way to meet other students and network with legal professionals.
