Facilities

Darwin Building is the main base for our Occupational Therapy courses. You'll find us at the John Dawson Sciences Complex. Teaching takes place in multimedia classrooms with state-of-the-art resources for learning. We also share spaces with Physiotherapy and Sport and Exercise Sciences. This includes a gym with a range of cardiovascular and resistance training equipment.

Patient, Carer and Public Involvement

You'll work closely with our Patient, Carer and Public Involvement (PCPI) participants. They'll share their lived experiences of health and social care services with you. This is invaluable in identifying gaps and priorities in the topics we teach. They'll also give you verbal feedback to aid with your assessments and training. This all helps develop your confidence of working with patients before your placement.

Placements and work experience opportunities

If you study Occupational Therapy Accelerated, you need to complete 1,000 hours of clinical placement. You'll complete one block of six weeks in year 1, and two blocks (nine weeks, then 12) in year 2. They can occur in a range of settings including:

  • Physical trusts

  • Mental health organisations

  • Local authority organisations

  • Third and voluntary sector organisations.

Placement must take place across a variety of physical and mental health specialities. Read about two of our students' placement experience in Africa.
