Facilities

Darwin Building in The John Dawson Sciences Complex is the main base for our Occupational Therapy courses. Teaching takes place in multimedia classrooms with state-of-the-art resources for learning. There are also shared spaces with Physiotherapy and Sport and Exercise Sciences, including a fully-equipped gym with a range of cardiovascular and resistance training equipment.

Key facilities include:

Patient, Carer and Public Involvement

To aid your simulation experiences, you'll work with our Patient, Carer and Public Involvement (PCPI) participants. They'll share with you their lived experiences of health and social care services. Their experiences are extremely valuable in identifying gaps and priorities in the topics we teach. They also provide you with crucial verbal feedback to aid with your assessments and training. Working with them will develop your confidence of working with patients before you go out on placement.

Placements and work experience opportunities

If you study Occupational Therapy Accelerated, you'll need to complete 1,000 hours of clinical placement. You'll complete one block of six weeks in year 1, and two blocks (nine weeks, then 12) in year 2. They can occur in a variety of settings. For example, physical trusts, mental health organisations, local authority organisations, or third and voluntary sector organisations. You must complete your placement experience across a variety of physical and mental health specialities.
