You'll be fully supported throughout your paramedic training with the latest in simulation technology – from high-fidelity manikins and remote video systems to our state-of-the-art simulated ambulance.

Our bespoke ambulance replicates a day-to-day environment, while also featuring advanced learning and assessment tools. It’s a key part of our innovative course design, allowing you to take part in clinical simulations across a variety of realistic settings throughout the region.

We use a wide range of simulation manikins to support your learning, including SimMan patient simulators (SimMan 3G, SimMan ALS, Sim Junior, and Sim Baby), CAE Apollo and Caesar manikins, and realistic SimBodies. The SimMan and Apollo manikins can mimic real physiological responses such as blood pressure, pulse, and drug recognition, helping you develop the confidence and skills needed for real-life emergency care.

Our Living Lab features a one-of-a-kind immersive simulation room, where you can take part in realistic scenarios in a safe and supportive environment. It’s designed to feel as close to real life as possible, giving you the chance to build confidence and practise your clinical skills without pressure.

Right next door, there’s a dedicated debrief room where your group can watch the scenario live on screen and take part in feedback and group discussions afterwards – a great way to learn from each other and reflect on the experience together.

We have several fully equipped mock hospital wards where our healthcare students can practise their skills in realistic settings. These are located in the Living Lab and at Helen McArdle House.

Alongside a standard ward, we also have a mock children’s ward with interactive baby and child manikins, and a dedicated mental health ward which includes bedrooms, a day room, a seclusion room, and a treatment room.

Used by both Paramedic and Physiotherapy students, our Anatomy Lab is designed to support modern anatomy teaching, covering everything from gross and living anatomy to osteology and clinical imaging.

You'll have access to a wide range of Adam Rouilly anatomical models that represent all body systems, along with portable ultrasound equipment to support hands-on learning. One of the standout features of the lab is the Anatomage Table – a high-tech, touch-screen ‘virtual operating table’. It’s packed with clinical content, including radiology, pathology, embryology, and histology resources to deepen your understanding of anatomy in a practical, interactive way.

To enhance your simulation experience, we work closely with our Patient, Carer and Public Involvement (PCPI) participants. These are real patients and carers who take part in training and assessments, helping to create realistic scenarios that bring your learning to life and better prepare you for real-world practice.
