Facilities
Our Pharmacy courses are based in the John Dawson Sciences Complex and Helen McArdle House at City Campus. Benefitting from recent multi-million pound investments, both are home to state-of-the-art healthcare facilities and equipment.
Within the Living Lab in the John Dawson Sciences Complex, you’ll find a unique immersive simulation room designed to help you practise a wide range of clinical scenarios in a safe, supportive environment. It’s a great way to build your skills and get instant feedback from staff and peers.
While one group takes part in the scenario, others can observe via a live stream, making it easy to review and reflect. Simulations can be replayed to highlight what went well and where there’s room to improve – helping you grow in confidence and ability.
Simulation manikins help you build confidence and develop clinical skills in a realistic but safe environment.
Our range includes high-fidelity manikins like SimMan 3G, SimMan ALS, Sim Junior, Sim Baby, CAE Apollo, and Caesar, as well as anatomically realistic SimBodies and lower-fidelity models.
SimMan and Apollo manikins can be programmed with a variety of clinical scenarios and respond just like real patients – with features such as blood pressure, a pulse, and in the case of SimMan 3G, drug recognition technology.
The Dispensary is used by Pharmacy students across all year groups, including Foundation Trainee Pharmacists. The Dispensary has industry-standard kit such as labelling software, access to pharmacy reference sources (online and paper-based resources), and appropriate drug storage facilities which comply with relevant legislation and good practice requirements.
You'll have access to fully equipped mock hospital wards at both the Living Lab and Helen McArdle House, designed to reflect real clinical environments.
OSCE stands for Objective Structured Clinical Examination. An OCSE is a practical assessment you must undertake to test your clinical skills competency.
We have three dedicated OSCE suites across the Living Lab in the John Dawson Sciences Complex and Helen McArdle House.
We work closely with our Patient, Carer and Public Involvement (PCPI) participants. You'll have the chance to practise your skills with real patients and carers and get valuable feedback to support your learning and development.
