Secondary schools

We now use a more targeted approach for our pre-16 outreach work. This enures our activities have a clear impact on pupils from widening participation backgrounds. It also allows us to track progress and measure the success of our support.

As part of this, we have selected a group of partner secondary schools. These schools have a high number of pupils from backgrounds underrepresented in higher education. We have also considered our existing partnerships when choosing these schools.

We're collaborating with our NHS colleagues to host an event. It's for Year 8 pupils from schools in South Tyneside and Sunderland. Visiting pupils will take part in interactive activities led by NHS clinicians. Experts include physiotherapists, occupational therapists, radiographers, speech and language therapists, dieticians, and more. They'll also have the chance to explore our healthcare facilities. Students will gain an insight into higher education and health career pathways.

We're hosting two Discovery Days for the Salters’ Institute’s Festivals of Chemistry. This is an opportunity to:

• Inspire pupils about chemistry
• Motivate them to pursue the subject to an advanced level
• Encourage them to see themselves working in and with science in the future.

The programme is for Year 10 and 11 pupils. It includes both online elements and a campus event at the University.

We're collaborating with the Foundation of Light to create the Esports Challenge. This has been possible through funding from Community Foundation. The programme is for Key Stage 3 pupils. It shines a light on British Esports and our Esports Event Management degree.

We're planning to host an on-campus multi-school healthcare event in the summer term. We'll promote this event via our newsletters and other promotional channels. These will include full details of dates, content, and how to secure places for your pupils. The programme is for Year 10 pupils.

NERAP provides a range of activities, workshops and information sessions. These cover all aspects of student life and access to university.

Our team of Higher Education Ambassadors deliver these sessions. We tailor them to meet the requirements of students from Year 2 through to Year 11. We provide informative and engaging activities for your students. This ensures they come away from the session with an understanding of their options.

NERAP is committed to making sure all students have equal and fair access to higher education. For pre and post-16 care experienced young people and young carers we deliver:

We offer activities through ‘A Teacher’s Guide to Inspiring Futures in the North East’. This is a resource for KS2 and KS4 teachers. This supports you to deliver an introduction to Higher Education in the north-east. Each module contains the lesson plans and presentations you need to deliver an engaging lesson. All worksheets and resources are accessible on the Online Teacher's Resources section of the NERAP website. These are completely free of charge.
