Lecturer in BSc (Hons) Children's and Young People's Nursing Practice

About Anna Hutchinson

I'm registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) as a children’s nurse and have a background in intensive care. I qualified in 2003 and have worked in several Paediatric Intensive Care Units (PICU) in the UK and Australia. In 2016 I decided to have a change of scenery and moved into Neonatal Intensive Care (NICU), based on the level 3 unit at the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle.

I've always enjoyed working alongside student nurses and newly qualified nurses, helping to build confidence, knowledge, and clinical skills at the patient bedside, as well as in classroom and simulation settings. I've worked as a clinical educator in both PICU and NICU.

I joined the University of Sunderland in 2023 as a lecturer on the BSc (Hons) Children's and Young People’s Nursing Practice course. The role has allowed me to teach across all fields of nursing practice, midwifery, and paramedic science.
