About Professor Arabella Plouviez

I am an Emerita Professor of Photography, having retired from the University in 2024.
Throughout my career, I have worked as both a practitioner and a creative practice researcher, exploring the intersections of photography, identity, and representation.

I played a key role in establishing the Northern Centre of Photography, helping to shape it into a leading space for innovative photographic practice and research.

My work has been widely exhibited, and I have contributed to critical discussions on visual culture through publications and presentations.

Beyond academic leadership, I have been committed to fostering interdisciplinary collaborations where creative practice researchers work alongside other disciplines to disrupt, challenge and re-think research practices, through the development of Co/Lab.

Having retired from full-time academia, I continue to engage with photography through independent projects, exhibitions, and collaborations, remaining actively involved in the field.
