About Bruce Forster
I have an Honours Degree in Economics from Newcastle University and a master’s in Adult and Continuing Education from the University of Sheffield.
I am a qualified secondary education teacher of economics, history and social studies, and I have worked in a number of schools and colleges. I also have curriculum management experience in colleges of further education and have run my own school of computing and office studies in Spain.
I joined the University in 2002 as a Senior Lecturer in Education and have supported many business studies trainees.
Since 2008, I have worked solely for the International PGCE, leading the teaching practice modules and master's modules in Management and Leadership and assessment via distance learning.
I formally retired from the University in 2019, but have continued to support students on the overseas DL courses and those undertaking study at master’s level.
I am also an experienced GCSE and advanced level examiner in Business Studies and in Global perspectives (Cambridge International examinations). I am currently a senior examiner in economics for an overseas commercial management institute.
Teaching and supervision
My current work is largely focused on ensuring that trainee teachers working in the international school sector are provided with high-quality education and training and are given the opportunity to develop into effective and outstanding teachers in their future careers.
I support second and third year students on MA Education and MA International Education.
Research
I have researched growing schools, collaboration with local schools, business and the countryside foundation for education on CPD and teaching materials for citizenship.
I have co-authored Economics: a background text (with Geoffrey Whitehead) for ICM Publications.
My current interests are in the training of teachers working in the overseas independent sector and in the practice of assessment. I also have interests in the development of school mentoring.
