About Dr Cally Bleasby
I've worked in health, social care, and education for 18 years. Prior to becoming a social worker, I worked in a range of health and social care settings including inpatient and community mental health settings, and early intervention services. Working with young people who had disengaged from education sparked my interest in social work and led me to study to become a qualified social worker.
Before moving into Higher Education, I worked as a child and family social worker for several years. I then worked at another educational institution in the North East for five years where I completed my teaching qualification and taught across a range of health, social care, and childcare degree courses. I joined the University of Sunderland in 2020 as Programme Leader of the BA (Hons) Social Work. In 2023, I became Associate Head of School of Social Work and Community and Youth Work.
Teaching and supervision

I'm also module leader for Research Methods for Social Work and dissertation supervisor on the BA (Hons) Social Work.
