Carla Purkis

I'm a senior lecturer and programme leader on BSc (Hons) Cardiac Physiology and BSc (Hons) Cardiac Physiology Practice. I'm continually working on developing and building on what is already an exceptional programme here at the University of Sunderland.

I'm a clinically registered Cardiac Physiologist with a history in multiple specialist fields of cardiology. This includes echocardiography/cardiac imaging, invasive cardiology and rhythm diagnosis.

I've worked in a diverse range of cardiac fields including sports screening, research and cardiac engineering/product development. I've worked in tertiary NHS centres and private healthcare. I've also worked as a cardiac clinical specialist/clinical lecturer for the UK and abroad for the past 15 years.

As an educator I have been actively involved in Society of Cardiac Science and Technology (SCST) and hold British Society of Echocardiography (BSE) accreditation.
