About Catherine Graham
I am a Nursing and Midwifery Council registered adult nurse. Post-qualification I worked for 8 years in post-operative colorectal surgery at the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle upon Tyne. First as a staff nurse rotating between post-operative ward and high dependency unit care, then as a colorectal specialist nurse caring for patients who had undergone bowel resections with formations of stomas.
The following 8 years, I worked in specialist palliative care in the in-patient unit of the Marie Curie Hospice in Newcastle upon Tyne. Here, I cared for patients with palliative diagnosis and patients who were at the end of life, and their families. I have extensive experience in palliative and end-of-life symptom management and the provision of holistic patient-centred care.
Teaching and supervision
I work across the adult, mental health and children's and young people's undergraduate nursing programmes. I am module leader for NRS301 the dissertation module and I am lead Personal Academic Tutor (PAT) for the undergraduate adult nursing practice programme.
Research
I have a Post Graduate Diploma in Oncology and Palliative Care and a Master's Degree in Health Professionals Education. I have completed research exploring nurses experiences of providing end-of-life spiritual care and more recently research exploring the lived experiences of blended learning nursing students.
