About Chris Davidson
I am a native of Gateshead, Tyne & Wear. After studying at the Cumbria Institute of the Arts (now the University of Cumbria), I attained a BA (Hons) in Creative Writing and Film Studies. I then began training as a student nurse at Birmingham City University. Since qualifying, I have progressed to nurse specialist level, most recently working in dementia care and adult safeguarding.
Throughout my career, I have worked extensively with older adults living with dementia and young people with brain injuries, including within various specialist neurology units. I initially worked as a staff nurse before progressing to the role of discharge coordinator and subsequently becoming a dementia nurse specialist at Bolton NHS Foundation Trust.
As a dementia nurse specialist, I was responsible for the corporate roll-out of dementia care priorities and staff training in Dementia Care, Positive and Safe Care, and Delirium Management. This experience in staff training and education led to my transition into higher education, where I became a lecturer at the local university.
During this time, I completed a postgraduate certificate in teaching, followed by a postgraduate diploma in health and social care. I subsequently progressed to the role of Senior Lecturer here at the University, where I completed an MSc in Neurocognition in Healthcare.
In 2017, I was a finalist in the category of Best Dementia Nurse Specialist at the National Dementia Care Awards, recognising my work in raising the profile of dementia care across Bolton.

I have always had a strong interest in teaching, education and mentorship. I continue to teach dementia and older adult care-related subjects here at Sunderland. I am particularly interested in supporting the development of student nurses and helping them translate theoretical knowledge into safe, compassionate and evidence-based clinical practice.
I teach on the MNurse (Adult) course.
