About Claire Fox
I’m the Principal Lecturer for Learning and Teaching for Undergraduate Nursing (Adult, Child and Mental Health). I have expertise in undergraduate nursing education development and delivery.
I qualified as a nurse in 2001 while in the British Army. During this time, I worked in several hospitals in the UK and served in active service.
I have worked in various settings, including trauma and orthopaedics, surgical emergency admissions, MAU and ENT.
I specialised in Trauma and Orthopaedics in 2004 and worked in various roles in this speciality.
Other roles have included Practice Placement Facilitator, Practice Development, Project Manager, Nurse Specialist and Medical Education Programme Manager.
I joined the University as a Senior Lecturer and Clinical Link Tutor in 2017.
Teaching and supervision
My signature pedagogy is the use of simulation within undergraduate health education. My main areas of interest are clinical skills, trauma, simulation and leadership.

I joined University of Sunderland as a Senior Lecturer and Clinical Link Tutor in 2017. My passion is for developing the methodology and delivery of pre-reg education making it inclusive and innovative. I have held the role of deputy and programme lead for adult undergraduate nursing before my current role as Principal Lecturer for Learning and Teaching for Undergraduate Nursing. My passion remains to develop and inspire the next generation of nurses, to provide leadership to the academic team, ensuring we provide outstanding teaching and student support.
