About Claire Lambert

I am a Lecturer in the School of Education and work primarily on the University’s Assessment Only Route to Qualified Teacher Status (AOR to QTS), supporting experienced teachers working towards QTS in the UK and internationally. I also teach on the PGCE, where I am a Deputy Module Lead.

Before moving into Higher Education, I spent over ten years in primary education, progressing into senior leadership roles with responsibility for curriculum, teaching and learning, staff development and English. As a Specialist Leader of Education for English, I worked with schools across the North East to develop their English curriculum, teaching and leadership.

My interest in teacher development led me to complete a Master’s degree in Education at Newcastle University, focusing on practitioner enquiry. I subsequently worked with Newcastle University and UCL, facilitating the Early Career Teacher programme and mentor training, and taught on the National Professional Qualification for Leading Literacy (NPQLL). I also hold the National Professional Qualification for Headship (NPQH).

My professional interests include teacher education, inclusion and relational practice, alongside a longstanding passion for English as a subject and its teaching across all key phases. Having worked in a large primary school serving a community experiencing significant socioeconomic disadvantage, I developed a particular interest in the role that relationships and high-quality education can play in improving opportunities for all children. I have also worked as an English subject specialist within iQTS and continue to assess English teaching across primary and secondary contexts.

Alongside teacher education, I teach within International Education, extending my interest in how educational practice is shaped by different social, cultural and educational contexts.

Prior to education, I worked in network television as an Editor and Director and received two BAFTA nominations for my work.
