About Edel Mattocks
I am an experienced emergency care nurse and a Senior Lecturer in nursing.
I have national and international teaching experience including undergraduate and postgraduate nurses, medical students and interprofessional groups. I worked as a Senior Lecturer in Abu Dhabi where I gained international experience in education management.
I have worked as a Senior Lecturer for the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) and I'm now a Senior Lecturer for the University of Sunderland. I am the BSc (Hons) Nursing Blended Learning and year tutor. I supervise master's students and support them on their journey to achieving their goals.
I am experienced in developing and delivering simulation to enhance student nurses' experience in a safe environment.
Simulation allows us to deliver effective training and check student competence before 'going live'. I am interested in using technology to provide excellent teaching experiences and develop students' full potential. I believe that using technology to teach our students improves their learning experience allows the teaching team to work more efficiently and prepares a workforce fit for the future.

I trained as a nurse in Kings College Hospital London where I developed clinical skills in acute medical and surgical care. I moved to the north-east of England in 1996 where I continued to develop skills in an acute assessment unit and then as a specialist nurse in anticoagulation and deep vein thrombosis (DVT) prevention and management. I continued to gain experience working as a Lecturer Practitioner for undergraduate medical students and allied health professionals.
I have developed a broad range of clinical and education skills while developing and implementing curriculum content within healthcare and higher education settings.
I enjoy what I do, and the best part is supporting students to achieve the best that they can. I am proud to be part of the blended learning team because the course provides opportunities for students who might otherwise never be able to attend university and achieve a degree.
