About Fay Cavagin

I have enjoyed a diverse career in education. I completed my degree with the University of Sunderland in 2011. During this time, I worked as a playworker in early years before moving into roles in mental health support and advocacy work. I continue to maintain links with the early years sector as I am the Governor responsible for SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disability) in a maintained nursery school.

I also previously worked as a teacher of children with SEND in a specialist school for children with autism. More recently, I have worked as a curriculum leader in a further education college, responsible for FE and HE childcare, education, science, and health courses.

I have led Maths and English provision and have taught functional skills numeracy to adults in community settings. I have worked at the University of Sunderland since 2021, and I'm currently Programme Leader for BA (Hons) Childhood and Society Studies (Top-Up).

I completed a master's degree in Special Educational Needs and Inclusive Education in 2013 and have continued to focus my research interests on inclusive practices. I am currently completing my doctorate. My debut children's book was published in 2021, titled 'I'll Get you Home' and is the first book in a series surrounding animals, habitats, inclusion, and kindness.
