About Dr Fiona Crosbie
I have lived in the North East since coming to Newcastle University in 1989. My first degree was BSc (Hons) Medicinal Chemistry. I then studied Medicine and completed my MBBS in 1998. I qualified as a GP in 2002.
I live in Sunderland, and am proud to have taught every cohort of medical students at my local university since we first established our school in 2019. My aim is to encourage and inspire the next generation of doctors, just as my tutors did when I was a medical student.
Teaching and supervision
My roles in the medical school are diverse and include: I lead Communication Skills teaching, and regularly teach Phase 1 medical students; I am the clinical lead for Year 1, responsible for supporting students with their developing professionalism; I am a Patch Lead for a local area, responsible for liaising with some of the GPs who hosts students on placements.
Further information
From 2015 to 2018, I was an active member of Gateshead and South Tyneside Local Medical Committee: LMCs have a national statutory function to represent GPs' interests. I progressed to become Vice Chair and then Chair of my LMC, a position which gave me increased knowledge of medical politics and the structure and function of the wider NHS.
