About Frances Proud
I began my teaching career in the Department of Theology of Durham University teaching undergraduate Hebrew. From there I moved on to teach Religious Studies for over 30 years in an independent school. During that time, I was also a team inspector in the independent sector.
For my last three years I also served as the school's chaplain. During my teaching career, I was responsible for teacher training, and worked closely with the universities of Sunderland and Durham.
In 2020 I gained my Associate Fellowship (HEA).
Teaching and supervision
I am an Academic Tutor in the School of Education, working with International Initial Teacher Training students as well as with UK SCITT students.
Areas of expertise
I have worked a lot in the wider area of Biblical Studies, as well as with clergy and lay people in preparation for different types of ministry within the church.
I have over 30 years' experience of working with students in Initial Teacher Training both in the UK and abroad. Some of this was as a lead mentor in school, and more recently through my work with the University.
Further information
I enjoy classical music, and I have a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. I enjoy reading, mainly historical novels and biographies (as well as relaxing lighter-weight "feel good" novels).
Having retired from full-time teaching I now work (part-time) with students training to be teachers both in the UK and abroad. I also steward and guide tours in Durham Cathedral. I am a member of the Society of Recorder Players and enjoy playing a range of different recorders.
