About Gavin Mason
I began my lecturing career at the University after qualifying as a teacher in 2007.
Prior to working in higher education, I enjoyed a career as a practising regional and wider national operational manager, where I gained experience in both the public and private sectors, working for companies in financial, leisure, sporting, retail, and dairy industries. This diversity of working environment allows me to draw on a breadth of contexts in my teaching and research supervision.
Teaching and supervision
I lead the core Level 3, undergraduate management module – MGT303 Leading and Implementing Change. This module embeds a live employer experience to allow students to gain applied commercial experience.
I also teach the following core business and management modules:

Interests
I am interested in management judgement and decision-making, strategy, and organisation behaviour. My particular theme of academic interest is that of 'Trust'. I have supervised dissertation research projects at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels and from a variety of management subject perspectives.
Due to my commercial career and academic experience of designing and leading the delivery of various courses, I have developed a keen interest in aligning the application of theory, to that of commercial practice contexts. This passion for sharing wisdom of the commercial arena with the ability to align theoretical understanding has developed my teaching style and adoption of learning approaches to aiding and enhancing the employability of students.
