About Gemma Bradley
I am an occupational therapist, educator and applied health researcher with more than 20 years experience. I am committed to supporting people to live, age and work well within their communities.
As an occupational therapist, I have worked primarily with people with a range of neurological conditions such as Stroke and Acquired Brain Injury and have worked in hospital, community and rehabilitation settings. I have also worked in pre-registration education, responsible for teaching, assessment, admissions, and practice-based learning elements of occupational therapy education.
I have an interest in workforce development. With specific interests in the involvement of Allied Health Professionals in all aspects of health and care systems and the development of the non-qualified and support workforce. I am committed to public involvement and community engagement and have experience of co-production approaches in research, particularly with older adults, caregivers and people with mental health needs.
As a Research Fellow funded by the Applied Research Collaboration North East North Cumbria, I am passionate about improving the health and wellbeing of people and communities in the North East of England who face some of the greatest inequalities in health.

My research interests focus on improving the lives of people with long-term conditions, particularly older adults. My interests include:
- Prevention
- Assistive technology
- Social prescribing
- Supporting participation and independence in everyday life.
I have methodological expertise in applied qualitative research, particularly observation, survey and interview methods. I am currently a co-applicant on an NIHR-funded programme of research exploring social care pathways for older adults to access equipment and support for bathing.
