About Gemma Johnson
I am a Senior lecturer and the Deputy Programme Leader here at the University of Sunderland for the MNurse (Adult) pre-registration Masters Programme. I am also the Module Leader for the post Graduate Acute Cardiac Care Specialist course. I am a Registered Adult nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) and an Independent Nurse Prescriber.
My clinical background is mainly Cardiology, but I have experience in Thoracic and Respiratory Nursing. I have gained qualifications in Acute Cardiac Care and Acute Respiratory Care and Mentorship in Practice. I moved back to the North East in 2016 and began working at a local NHS Trust as a Rapid access chest pain sister in Cardiology. Throughout my time at the trust, I have gained extensive cardiology knowledge and have qualifications in clinical skills, Advanced Electrocardiogram (ECG) Interpretation and Nurse prescribing.
I began working for the University of Sunderland in 2022 as a Senior Lecturer in the Undergraduate Blended Adult Nursing Programme (BSC) and have taught across various modules across Year 1,2 and 3.
