About Gemma Johnson

I'm a Senior lecturer and the Deputy Programme Leader at the University of Sunderland for the MNurse (Adult) pre-registration Masters Programme. I'm also the Module Leader for the post Graduate Acute Cardiac Care Specialist course. I'm a Registered Adult nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) and an Independent Nurse Prescriber.

My clinical background is mainly Cardiology, but I have experience in Thoracic and Respiratory Nursing. I've gained qualifications in Acute Cardiac Care and Acute Respiratory Care and Mentorship in Practice. I moved back to the North East in 2016 and began working at a local NHS Trust as a Rapid access chest pain sister in Cardiology. Throughout my time at the trust, I've gained extensive cardiology knowledge and have qualifications in clinical skills, Advanced Electrocardiogram (ECG) Interpretation and Nurse prescribing.

I began working for the University of Sunderland in 2022 as a Senior Lecturer in the Undergraduate Blended Adult Nursing Programme (BSC) and have taught across various modules across Year 1, 2 and 3.
