About Hayley Jenkins
I am a composer, lecturer, researcher and conductor based in the north-east. I lecture on Performing Arts, Music and PGCE PCET courses at the University.
As a composer my work has featured in the Late Music concert series, with works performed by the Delta Saxophone Quartet, Albany Piano Trio and soprano Payee Chen. New projects include a commission for the Delta Saxophone Quartet, Soon Amore and working with the Darlington Clarinet Ensemble.
My research/pedagogical interests include music education, further and higher education, eLearning and employability thinking. More specifically, I worked as research assistant for SUNCETT (Centre for Excellence in Teacher Training) in the School of Education at the University and I am now training teachers who want to work in the Post Compulsory Education Sector.
I am also part of the MiM Project, working with colleagues at York St John University. The project examines how eLearning platforms empower students to actively disseminate their work and encourage reflective practice with the view to improving the employability prospects of graduating students. This research is ongoing and has influenced my work at the University of Sunderland.
Teaching and supervision
- BA (Hons) Performing Arts
- PGCE PCET
I teach modules which are rooted in creative artistic reflective practice (Performance and Me) and more community/education focused modules (Arts Identity and Industry, Community/Education Project) on the Performing Arts course.
