About Dr Jaishree Prasad

I'm a lecturer and a social scientist. I teach various Marketing and Business management modules across MBA, IBM and MA Marketing programmes. I also supervise PhD students and review journal articles in various marketing journals. Regarding my academic background, I have an undergraduate degree in Microbiology and Chemistry (Fergusson College, Pune, India), an MBA in Marketing and Retail (Pune University MBA Department, Pune, India), an MSc in International Fashion Marketing (Glasgow Caledonian University, UK), and a PhD in Marketing (Northumbria University, Newcastle, UK).

My doctorate focuses on the effect of childhood socioeconomic status and symbolic self-completion on the consumption of counterfeit luxury and high-street fashion brands. I've presented my research on counterfeit luxury brands to the UK Intellectual Property Office (IPO) and various other stakeholders of IP crime in the retail industry and in academia.

My conference paper based on my masters dissertation, titled "Dress like the British or as oneself? – An investigation of international students' acculturation journey" was presented at the Australian and New Zealand Marketing Academy (ANZMAC) in 2022.

I love teaching and interacting with students. I've enjoyed working as a student counsellor at Glasgow Caledonian University and as an associate lecturer at Northumbria University, Newcastle. I also have six years of industry work experience across a variety of management roles including sales and marketing manager, and quality manager. Besides these, working on projects to prevent farmers' suicides in my home state of Bihar in India, is a life goal that is very close to my heart. Other than work, I enjoy sketching, writing, travelling, cooking Indian food, and riding my Royal Enfield motorcycle which I am very passionate about!

Please feel free to drop me an email if you want to discuss any research ideas or just to engage in some intellectually stimulating conversations.
