About Dr Jason Tipples
My research focus has been understanding how emotions colour our thoughts and behaviour and also, how we understand and react to other people by observing their non-verbal behaviour (e.g. facial expressions and eye gaze). The human face has become rather central to my research with a more recent focus on prejudice and other biases that influence the impressions we make of other people.

Interests
Areas of expertise
I am an experimental psychologist specialising in emotion, attention, social perception, and cognitive processes. My research examines how emotional and social signals, particularly facial expressions, gaze direction, and threat-related cues, influence attention, perception, decision-making, and the subjective experience of time.
I use behavioural experiments, computational modelling, and cognitive neuroscience methods to investigate the mechanisms underlying human cognition and behaviour. My work has made particular contributions to understanding attentional bias, gaze cueing, face perception, emotion-time interactions, and individual differences in emotional processing.
My research has been published in leading psychology journals and has attracted more than 3,000 citations, reflecting sustained impact across cognitive, social, and affective psychology.
