About Dr Jeremy Pearson
My academic qualifications include a Professional Doctorate and an MBA in Senior Leadership, which were both gained at the University of Sunderland, as well as a BA (Hons) in Further Education and Training from Northumbria University.
I additionally hold Level 7 qualifications in Strategic Leadership and Management, and I am a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
Professionally, after a 30-year career in policing, I have a significant background in the field of organisational ethics and have led large-scale counter-corruption and misconduct enquiries, as well as possessing extensive experience in both the overt and covert investigation of serious and organised criminality.
I am a former Head of the National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC) International Crime Coordination Centre (ICCC) and have contributed to community safety across the UK by delivering innovative strategic solutions to the national threat posed by international criminality.
Prior to the UK's exit from the EU, I led the UK police contingency planning team, working alongside colleagues from the National Crime Agency (NCA), the Home Office and policing agencies across Europe.
As a former Detective Superintendent, my policing career spans the following areas: International Criminality, Serious and Organised Crime investigation, Critical Incident and Firearms Command, Intelligence Management, Professional Standards and Counter-Corruption, Investigative Skills Training, Corporate Development, Inspection (internal audit and scrutiny), Criminal Justice, as well as Public Protection and Safeguarding.
As an Independent Lead Reviewer, I have experience of conducting Local Child Safeguarding Practice Reviews and have conducted safeguarding work for a range of organisations including The Football Association (The FA) and UK Athletics.
Teaching and supervision
I lecture in policing and associated criminal justice topics, and I am the Programme Leader for both the two-year (accelerated) and three-year Professional Policing degree courses as well as the Policing Studies degree:
I am module leader for the International Criminality module which is offered as part of MSc Leadership in Criminal Justice and Policing.
Additionally, I supervise students at various levels, from PhD to undergraduate students engaged in the submission of dissertations during the final year of their degree course.
Interests
I have a particular research interest in international criminality, foreign national offending, and international policing structures, though due to my span of practical experience, I am able to supervise students conducting any form of policing research.
